ELIZABETH NOBLE LINDSEY HERENDON (Herndon)

Source: Crawfordsville (Crawfordsville, Indiana) Star 9 May 1878

In the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Lindsey Herendon (Herndon) this community lost one of its most honored and dearly beloved citizens. Born Oct 1, 1806 she was united in marriage to the late (died 3 June 1872) Dr. Herendon at Newport, Ky Oct 18 1826 and moved to Crawfordsville in September 1834 at which place she has since made her permanent residence. She united with the church at a comparatively early age - at 14 - and was therefore a consistent working, christian member of the Methodist Church for the space of 57 years. She died on May 4, 1877. During her sickness she expressed the beautiful thought that she had Christ to sustain her in all her afflictions. In all her long illness there was no repining. In her sickness as in her health she feared to give others unnecessary trouble, never uttering a complaint or murmur. The night her brother arrived from a distance, she remarked, "my title is not as clear as some, but it is all right," and thus passed away one whom all knew to love and respect. The funeral services took place from the ME Church on last Sabbath afternoon and were largely attended. The services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Green, the pastor. - kbz
